How We Met

So by request here is the story of how we met.

Once upon a time........(well doesn't every fairytale begin this way, even the lived ones?)
One lovely Friday in February I was at my sister Mindy's house. I was debating on whether or not to go to the singles dance that very evening. Mindy kicked me out of her house and told me I needed to go meet new people even if I only went and checked it out for a few minutes. So I grudgingly went home, splashed on a little makeup on and ran a brush through my hair. When I got to the chapel they made me put on a name tag. So I did, but I only wrote my first name, when I saw my friend Andy and a few other people I knew we cracked a joke about being like Madonna and only having a first name. Then I saw him, sitting there at the table all by himself looking so handsome. I figured I didn't have a chance with a guy as good looking as he is but I was feeling a little outgoing, and since Mindy made me go I was gonna make the most of it and actually talk to people. Which is WAAAAAAY out of my comfort zone. I sat next to the handsome man and introduced myself, and to my surprise he was actually nice to me and wanted to talk! So we talked and talked and talked the night away, we did manage to work in one dance. He was so wonderful and sweet and kind. Before we knew it they were announcing the end of the dance was coming. He was so nervous but he did ask me out on a date!!!!!!! Oh my goodness!!!!! I was so excited. He was so nervous his hand was shaking as he got me a paper to write my information on for our date! So we planned for a Saturday afternoon lunch and a movie the next week since I was busy on the next day when he really wanted to go out.
Well there you have it, the beginning of the end of my single days. I will post up more tidbits as I think of them just for you Kaitlyn!
Miss you all and thank you so much for the well wishes, see you in September!

Lucas 1st concert!

So on Saturday night I went to a concert with Lucas and some of his family to support their friends from an old Ward in Greensboro, NC. The band is called Ariel Down and if you like Rock music you will like them. They put on a really good show (plus their music is good).
Lucas was so cute, I still can't get over the fact that he has NEVER been to a concert before! He loved it and had such a good time. I don't think it will be hard to convince him to go to more! Like I really want to go see U2 in October....we will see if we can still get tickets.
I still can't wait to come home in September for Kami's wedding. I am so excited to see everyone! I feel like it has been forever! Well back to work I go, more updates soon.
Also the pics are from the 4th of July.......We had such a good time!!!!!!

ENGAGED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow I haven't been on here since Jan. That's insane. Mostly because I am always on Facebook. If you are on here and on Facebook and I don't have you as a friend yet, find me I will accept you!

Other news, for those who do not know it yet.......I have been dating this guy (Lucas Erickson) since February. What can I say it took 30 years to get my prince charming! He is so wonderful I do not know I survived without him before! (wait yes I do, I am GayLynne's daughter...a little too independent?)
Anywho.....Love is in the air and plans are being made! Yes you heard it here....Shannon is finally getting MARRIED!!!!!!!!!!
So dust off your Temple Bags and be ready for a spring wedding! We have not settled on a date yet, but it is happening folks!
I am so excited I can hardly stand it! I can't wait for everyone to meet him. If you will be there fr Kami's wedding then you will get your chance! Be there or be square!

Well I better get back to work or something......much Love all!

SNOW DAY!

Snow in North Carolina! I got to stay home from work how awesome is that! Here are some pics of my front and back yards.

My roommates car covered in snow!

The backyard barbecue.

The front yard from my window upstairs.

My car from my window....can you find it?

This was so awesome, a little snow and it will all be gone in a few days. Just enough to get a feel for the cold and have for the first time in my life something called snow cream, it is like homemade ice cream, only made faster. Apparently it is a southern thing. Well off I go to make some dinner. Take care all!

Random Ramblings

The Holiday's are over, the decorations are down. How sad. Everything seems so boring without the lights. All well, it is what it is.
My best friend sent me a message and asked if Santa brought me everything I wanted. I told her that he forgot to drop off my ready made husband.
To those of you who are married and sometimes wonder if you would be better off alone. The answer is NO, NO, NO, NO and NO. I cannot tell you how bored I am with myself. I am not very exciting, I always win my own arguments, and already know what I am going to say.
Single folks may not seem to have as many challenges without kids and a husband to worry about, but believe me there are plenty. We just have different ones.
My lack of motivation to change anything about myself is absolutely astounding. Why is it that I lack motivation? I am always telling myself about the things I want to do or the improvements I want to make. Why am I so lazy? This is a character flaw of the worst kind. Well God willing and with His help, maybe we will see some improvement eventually.
Anyway, here is to a new year and high hopes for good things to come.
God bless you all and Happy New Year!

Last minute decorating

So normally my roommate and I decorate for Christmas the weekend after Thanksgiving. We have both been so busy that it just didn't get done. So yesterday I decided it was about dang time one of us did something. So I began to decorate. I put up my mothers nativity scene from Japan and a few other small items on the fireplace mantle. Then today I put up the tree and the lighted garland. NOW it feels like the Christmas. My home teachers came over after church today and had a little giggle at my last minute efforts to get it all done. How sad to think that this will only be up for about 2 weeks before it all comes down. I just love the soft glow of Christmas lights and the music. It makes me feel like a kid again. There is something so peaceful and calming about it all.
Here is an interesting tidbit. In doing some research online I read somewhere that the true tradition of the 12 days of Christmas actually begins on Christmas day and continues into the new year. Also that the song was originally written in a time when teaching about Christianity in public was taboo, so the song was written to teach in a round about way. Every day has a special meaning about Christ, His ministry, His life and death. I am not exactly sure if these things are true, but I did read them somewhere and am going to try to learn more about it.
Merry Christmas!
